Psychologist accused of Wife Beating

From this report out of Indiana

David M. Buckingham, who heads up a staff of behavioral therapists at Buckingham & Associates that includes his psychologist wife Beth Buckingham, had been arrested on May 26 and charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury and domestic battery.

While in the Hamilton County Jail pending his release on $10,000 bond, he made a series of phone calls that she also reported as evidence of illegal intimidation, Fishers police spokesman Sgt. Gerry Hepp said.

Hepp characterized the calls as "threatening" but said today the investigation did not find sufficient evidence to bring additional charges.

David Buckingham, 52, could not be reached for comment today at his offices in the 13000 block of Parkside Drive. Beth Buckingham did not return phone calls to the business seeking comment.

In a sworn statement filed in court, Fishers police officer Tom Weger said the assault occurred on May 26 at the couple's home in the 9800 block of Sugarleaf Place in Fishers.

"The accused slapped her in the face with an open hand, slammed the car door on her right foot and stomped several times on her left foot," said Weger, who had arrived to investigate after Beth Buckingham fled to a neighbor's home to call police.

Hepp said the ruckus occurred during the early afternoon, after Buckingham's wife had returned from the grocery and began arguing with her husband about a situation involving a daughter.

When he took her keys to keep her from driving off again, Hepp said, she decided to pack and leave with her daughter for the weekend.

After her husband returned home, she told police, she got into his car to get her keys to her car.

"As she exited the car, Mr. Buckingham struck her with an open hand across the face . . . then slammed the car door on her right foot . . . stomped on her left foot," Hepp said.

He said Buckingham left the house before surrendering to police outside his office near 131st Street and Ind. 37.

Buckingham, who once served as a director of research at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis, is a 21-year practitioner still affiliated with Community Health Network.

Hepp said the May 26th incident involving the mental health care professional was not the first domestic disturbance in his household to merit police inquiry.

He said an argument Buckingham had with older daughter on Nov. 24 led to another family evacuation.

The next day, Hepp said, Buckingham's wife called police to complain that he would not allow her back in the house to pick up clothes or medication for herself and her children.

Dr. Buckingham has helped hundreds of people. He is the one of the most gentle, helpful and genuine people I have ever met. I have personal knowledge of this 'incident' and can tell you it was a misunderstanding and no charges were filed. I understand the necessity for a web site such as this, but to suggest Dr. Buckingham has not been convicted of any crime. It is truly unfair for you to promulgate this misunderstanding. Please, reconsider leaving this up.

Your assertion that no charges were filed led me to look for an update to the story. As you can see. the doctor was arrested and plead guilty, and paid damages. There are court records for a number of charges related to this case.

The story as originally posted came from the IndyStar.com.

If David told you he was never convicted of any crime he is lying to you. He accepted a plea agreement, the charge then dropped from a felony (which it should have been) to a misdemeanor. I totally do not understand why the psychology board did not revoke his license. From reading the entries in his first divorce it appears he put his children through a nasty custody battle. A request for a child advocate has been requested in his divorce taking place now. All of this is public record and can be found on Odyssey Indiana. So sad people pretend to be people they are not and fool so many....

Covert Hypnosis, Ericksonian hypnosis, is done without the client's awareness, consent, or approval. Voice intonations, confusion techniques, approach and touch are techniques. It's only goal is allow one person to have power over another. Easily detected, it's interesting to watch someone try to use iit on you especially if you play along.
